Plus Size Clothes that Help You Look Slimmer

Now that there are so many plus size gowns available both in-store and online, there’s no need to settle for the first thing you find that fits. You have the opportunity to find a dress that truly flatters your body, compliments your personality, is perfect for the occasion and, last but by no means least, makes you feel fabulous.
There are lots of things to consider in choosing the perfect plus size gown but for now let’s focus on tips that will make you look a good size or two slimmer for your special occasion.

  • Make your accessories work for you – so, you have the perfect plus size gown – congratulations! But your work is not yet done. You can make or break even the prettiest gown with your accessories. You’d better believe it – well balanced accessories can actually make you look thinner! And, of course, vice versa. So, once you have your gown selected, take some time to think about your necklace and purse. For larger women, tiny purses and thin belts are a no-no. Instead, find an elegant, medium-sized evening bag, opt for a necklace with a large pendant and, if you wear a watch, don’t got for the tiniest option. You’ll be surprised what a difference these small touches will make.

  • Don’t forget the shoes – we’ve all seen people at parties looking uncomfortable in the wrong kind of shoes. Don’t let that person be you. You need to be able to glide elegantly around the dance floor in your shoes – not have your fellow guests taking bets on when your way too dainty heels are finally going to give out. So, don’t choose shoes that are too petite for your frame. If you have a relatively short body a more pointed toe can help to make you look taller and slimmer. Conversely, no matter how fabulous your plus size gown is, wearing dark colored ankle straps on your shoes will make your legs look shorter .

  • Advice on separates – if you just can’t get comfortable with the idea of wearing a formal gown, do not fear. Carefully chosen separates can create a look that is both sophisticated and flattering. First of all, if you are attending a formal function, make sure that your separates are truly up to the mark – you don’t want to turn up to a dressy event in outfit that could be considered casual. Well cut formal pants or skirts, ideally in a flattering black, can form the core of a sophisticated outfit. And a well-hidden elasticated waist means that you can be comfortable as well as the belle of the ball. With that solid foundation, you can then allow your personality to shine through with a blouse that both flatters your figure and fits your personality. One faux-pas to avoid: if you’re wearing dark bottoms, don’t wear a white blouse. In addition to being confused for the wait-staff, you are also going to make yourself look shorter.

  • Let’s talk colors – no prizes for guessing that the safest bet for formal gowns whether you  are a curvy plus size woman or as skinny as a rake is…black. If in doubt, choose black every time. It is always sophisticated and allows you to blend in to any formal occasion. If you want to change it up, but still keep things formal then look for stylish options in navy, eggplant and burgundy – all very slimming colors. If you want to look taller make sure that you have a monochromatic color scheme i.e. don’t wear two different colors on top and bottom. Contrast between top and bottom halves will create the illusion that you are smaller than you really are.
